QatarEnergy halts LNG, declares force majeure

March 04, 2026 (MLN): QatarEnergy has declared force majeure to its affected buyers after stopping production of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and associated products, the company confirmed in a statement.

The world’s largest LNG producer declared that it has ceased production following military attacks on its operating facilities in Ras Laffan Industrial City and Mesaieed Industrial City in the Qatar.

According to the statement issued on Monday, QatarEnergy halted LNG and associated product output due to the attacks on its facilities, prompting the declaration of force majeure to impacted buyers.

Following the announcement, global gas markets reacted sharply. Benchmark Dutch and British wholesale gas prices surged by nearly 50 percent, while benchmark Asian LNG prices climbed almost 39%.

The suspension of LNG production by QatarEnergy has triggered significant volatility in international energy markets, emphasizing the company’s critical role in global LNG supply.
