CM Punjab sanctions Rs62bn for affordable housing

January 13, 2025 (MLN): The Punjab government has allocated Rs62 billion for the “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar” housing program, aimed at providing affordable housing to low-income families.

Chairing a special cabinet meeting, CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif directed officials to expedite the loan disbursement process to ensure swift access for eligible applicants, as reported by Express News.

She also set a target to disburse 40,000 housing loans by May 2025.

She also called for a review of a proposal to increase the maximum loan amount from Rs1.5 million to Rs2mn, aiming to offer more financial assistance to applicants.

Officials updated the chief minister on the initiative's progress, stating that nearly 5,000 people across Punjab have already received loans under the program, and more than 4,200 homes are close to completion.

The program also features a collaboration with the Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) and the Housing and Urban Development Department to offer ready-made homes to low-income families.

Maryam Nawaz Sharif underscored the program's objective of providing housing for everyone, stating that every individual deserves a home.

Housing is a basic right, and my goal is to ensure that no one is without shelter, she added.
