Closing bell: Political cues support bulls

October 23, 2019 (MNL): The benchmark KSE-100 Index kicked off on a positive note today.  The index recorded a positive close of 240 points and ended at 33,439 level.

Investors’ confidence was restored after the announcement of holding a march on October 27, by a political party, JUI, instead of a sit-in.

The Index remained positive throughout the session touching an intraday high of 33,638.35

Of the 90 traded companies in the KSE100 Index, 60 closed up 30 closed down, while 0 remained unchanged. Total volume traded for the index was 65.52 million shares.

Sectors propping up the index were Oil & Gas Exploration Companies with 96 points, Fertilizer with 52 points, Commercial Banks with 44 points, Food & Personal Care Products with 20 points and Transport with 12 points.

The most points added to the index was by ENGRO which contributed 42 points followed by OGDC with 30 points, MCB with 28 points, POL with 27 points and PPL with 24 points.

Sector-wise, the index was let down by Miscellaneous with 17 points, Cement with 7 points, Inv. Banks / Inv. Cos. / Securities Cos. with 7 points, Close – End Mutual Fund with 3 points and Paper & Board with 3 points.

The most points taken off the index was by PSEL which stripped the index of 17 points followed by LUCK with 9 points, DAWH with 8 points, KAPCO with 7 points and KTML with 5 points.

All Share Volume increased by 33.33 Million to 116.94 Million Shares. Market Cap increased by Rs.56.91 Billion.

Total companies traded were 351 compared to 344 from the previous session. Of the scrips traded 205 closed up, 132 closed down while 14 remained unchanged.

Total trades increased by 7,084 to 45,925.

Value Traded increased by 0.40 Billion to Rs.3.59 Billion
