Closing Bell: In the quagmire?

May 06, 2020 (MLN): The KSE -100 Index started the session on a buoyant note but lost momentum early on as profit-taking after the initial rally forced index to pare 264 points to settle at 33,728-level i.e. 0.78% lower than the previous closing.

Moreover, the index posted losses triggered by a rise in a number of coronavirus cases.

The Index traded in a range of 447.24 points or 1.32 percent of the previous close, showing an intraday high of 34,123.01 and a low of 33,675.77.

Of the 92 traded companies in the KSE100 Index, 39 closed up 51 closed down, while 2 remained unchanged. The total volume traded for the index was 150.58 million shares.

Sector-wise, the index was let down by Commercial Banks with 98 points, Cement with 55 points, Oil & Gas Exploration Companies with 39 points, Fertilizer with 34 points and Power Generation & Distribution with 34 points.

The most points taken off the index were by MCB which stripped the index of 56 points followed by HBL with 42 points, HUBC with 36 points, LUCK with 24 points and FFC with 17 points.

Sectors propping up the index were Technology & Communication with 14 points, Oil & Gas Marketing Companies with 10 points, Food & Personal Care Products with 7 points, Transport with 4 points and Sugar & Allied Industries with 4 points.

The most points added to the index were by NESTLE which contributed 9 points followed by TRG with 8 points, BAFL with 6 points, SHEL with 6 points and ANL with 6 points.

All Share Volume decreased by 52.35 Million to 208.97 Million Shares. Market Cap decreased by Rs.22.61 Billion.

Total companies traded were 350 compared to 341 from the previous session. Of the scrips traded 158 closed up, 163 closed down while 29 remained unchanged.

Total trades decreased by 12,679 to 84,777.

Value Traded decreased by 2.03 Billion to Rs.7.20 Billion
