Closing Bell: Bears batter Bulls before Budget

June 12, 2020: Domestic equities remained under pressure today with the KSE-100 index shedding 517 points during the session and closed the tradding at 34,611 points mark.

According to the closing note by Ismail Iqbal Securities, the dismal performance today, was in line in line with global markets on fear of a second COVID-19 wave. In addition, the announcement of Federal Budget today kept the investors' sentiments in check. Moreover, Pakistan foreign exchange reserves declined by USD212mn to USD 16.70bn.

The Index remained negative throughout the session touching an intraday low of 34,510.37

Of the 94 traded companies in the KSE100 Index 11 closed up 79 closed down, while 4 remained unchanged. Total volume traded for the index was 115.18 million shares.

Sector wise, the index was let down by Commercial Banks with 180 points, Oil & Gas Exploration Companies with 122 points, Power Generation & Distribution with 35 points, Fertilizer with 30 points and Technology & Communication with 22 points.

The most points taken off the index was by OGDC which stripped the index of 50 points followed by HBL with 47 points, MCB with 45 points, PPL with 44 points and UBL with 31 points.

Sectors propping up the index were Food & Personal Care Products with 2 points.

The most points added to the index was by ANL which contributed 8 points followed by NESTLE with 6 points, PIOC with 6 points, FFC with 4 points and JLICL with 2 points.

All Share Volume decreased by 92.75 Million to 177.88 Million Shares. Market Cap decreased by Rs.86.60 Billion.

Total companies traded were 336 compared to 371 from the previous session. Of the scrips traded 77 closed up, 235 closed down while 24 remained unchanged.

Total trades decreased by 102,018 to 0.

Value Traded decreased by 2.35 Billion to Rs.6.31 Billion
