CCI approves IGCEP 2021-30

September 6, 2021 (MLN): The Indicative Generation Capacity Expansion Plan (IGCEP) 2021-30 has been approved today by Council of Common Interest (CCI).

Taking to his Twitter handle, Hammad Azhar, Minister for Energy said, “IGCEP model only allows power generation to be added when it is needed (demand-supply projections) and on least cost basis (open competitive bidding).”

He also highlighted that the model was pending for approval since 2005.

Issues pertaining to capacity, price, and non-transparent power contracts will be avoided under this plan.

"Had such a model been put in place in the past, we could have avoided circular debt and many other problems," he added.
