CPI Preview: Inflation to fall to around 17% YoY in April

Aisha Steel Mills reports fire incident in one of its production facilities

January 7, 2020 (MLN): Aisha Steel Mills has reported a fire incident that occurred at the Rolling Mill of the old plant (Line-1) of the company, situated at DSU-45, Pakistan Steel, Downstream Industrial Estate, Bin Qasim, Karachi.

According to the notification issued by the company in this regard, the fire broke out at around 10.15 a.m., on January 7, 2020, which was brought under control within thirty minutes using the in-house firefighting system.

‘Fortunately, all the staff members are safe and there has been no loss or injury to human life’ the notice stated.

‘Also, there was no damage to all other facilities except the old rolling mill’ it added.

The cause of the accident and the extent of damage is under investigation. The Company is also in contact with the Insurance Company and taking appropriate steps to ensure the early start of the repair works.

Recently commissioned Line-2 consisting of Rolling Mill (CCM) having annual capacity of 500,000 tons, Continuous Galvanizing Line (CGL) with annual capacity of 250,000 tons, Push-Pull Picking Line (PPPL) with an annual capacity of 500,000 tons and Batch Annealing Furnaces (BAF) with annual capacity expanded to 325,000 tons are operating normally.

The notice further stated that more information will be shared after a comprehensive assessment of damage to the Rolling Mill and its effect on the overall production capacity of the mill.
