Workers’ Remittances falls to $3.46bn in Jan 2026

February 10, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan received workers' remittances of $3.46 billion in January 2026, down by 3.6% from December's $3.592bn, according to the latest data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

On a yearly basis, it increased by 15.4% from $3 bn in the same month last year.


On a cumulative basis, in 7MFY26, the total remittances stood at $23.20bn as compared to $20.85bn worth of inflows received in 7MFY25, depicting a rise of 11.3%.


Saudi Arabia remained the largest contributor to workers' remittances in January 2026, with inflows totaling $739.58m, showing a decline from the previous month but maintaining its position as Pakistan’s top source. However, it increased by 2% YoY from $728.26m.

The United Kingdom (U.K.) followed as the second-largest source, contributing $572.09 million, up 2.19% MoM, sustaining its position as the third-largest remittance corridor by annual contribution. The yearly change came in at a 29% increase from previous levels of $443.5m.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) remained the third-largest source, sending $694.16m, slightly lower than December 2025, but 12% higher than January 2025.

Within the UAE, Dubai contributed $544.75m, Abu Dhabi $126.11m, Sharjah $9.81m, and other emirates $13.49m.

Remittances from the United States (USA) stood at $294.68m, down slightly from the previous month.

Workers’ remittances from European Union (EU) countries reached $479.58m, showing a decrease from December 2025 but a 36% increase from January 2025.

Among EU member states, Italy led with $142.61m, followed by Germany $77.45m, France $55.49m, Spain $80.45m, Greece $49.66m, Ireland $25.92m, Netherlands $10.82m, Sweden $10.64m, and Denmark $7.69m.

Other GCC countries (excluding Saudi Arabia and UAE) contributed $329.26m, slightly lower than the previous month. Key contributors included Qatar $102.80m, Oman $105.59m, Bahrain $47.41m, and Kuwait $73.46m.

Among other notable countries, Malaysia sent $12.47m, Norway $13.24m, Switzerland $4.75m, Australia $109.71m, Canada $67.13m, Japan $5.39m, South Africa $29.35m, South Korea $9.31m, and other countries contributed $103.83m.
