May 11, 2026 (MLN):  Pakistan received workers' remittances of $3.54bn in April 2026, down 7.6% from March's $3.83bn, but up 11.4% on a yearly basis from $3.18bn in April 2025, according to the latest data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

On a cumulative basis, in 10MFY26, total remittances came in at $33.86bn as it continued the upward trajectory seen throughout the fiscal year.

The month-on-month dip comes against geopolitical tensions involving the United States, Israel and Iran, which have weakened economic activity in Gulf economies.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) in it's April 2026 Regional Economic Outlook, had also warned that the ongoing Middle East conflict is likely to slow economic growth across the Middle East, with Pakistan facing heightened risks due to rising energy and food import costs, potential declines in remittances and tighter financial conditions.

Saudi Arabia retained the top position as the largest contributor to workers' remittances in April 2026, with inflows totalling $841.75m, down 8.4% from March's $918.79m, but up 16.1% from $725.33m in April 2025.

The United Kingdom (UK) held on to third place, contributing $563.74m, down from March's $587.27m, but up 5.4% from $535.11m in April 2025.

Remittances from the United States (USA) stood at $317.58m, down from $358.82m in the previous month, but up 5% from $302.4m in April 2025.

Workers' remittances from European Union (EU) countries reached $432.21m, up from both March's $413.79m and April 2025's $412.16m. Among EU member states, Italy led with $125.56m, followed by Spain $74.68m, Germany $73.36m, Greece $48.05m, France $44.19m, Ireland $23.02m, Belgium $16.45m, Sweden $10.26m, Netherlands $8.93m, and Denmark $7.71m.
