August 08, 2026 (MLN): The benchmark KSE-100 Index closed
the week ended August 7, 2026, at 181,430.02 points, gaining 5,335.90
points, or 3.03%, on a week-on-week basis from 176,094.12 points
recorded on July 31, 2026.
The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) extended its bullish
momentum during the week, with the benchmark KSE-100 Index registering another
strong advance as broad-based buying supported overall market sentiment.
Investor sentiment was also supported by improving
geopolitical confidence after Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkey signed the
Mecca Joint Defence
Agreement, aimed at strengthening regional security and collective
defence, while optimism over continued macroeconomic stability and positive

Market Capitalization
The Pakistan Stock Exchange's market capitalization
increased by Rs150.62bn during the week, rising from Rs5.003tr on
July 31 to Rs5.154tr on August 7.
In dollar terms, market capitalization increased from $18.01bn
to $18.56bn, registering a gain of approximately $548.36m over
the week.
The market's USD-adjusted return stood at 3.06%,
compared with 2.99% in the previous week, reflecting the benchmark's

On the macroeconomic front, the State Bank of
Pakistan (SBP) raised Rs939.11bn
through its Market Treasury Bills (MTB) auction against total bids of
Rs2.29tr. Cut-off yields remained unchanged for the 1-Month tenor but eased
across the 3-Month, 6-Month, and 12-Month tenors compared with the previous
auction.
Pakistan's
trade deficit narrowed 15.22% month-on-month to $3.95bn in July 2026 as
exports surged 31.09%, while imports remained broadly stable. The monthly
improvement came despite the trade gap widening 25.17% year-on-year due to
higher import growth.
The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) raised
Rs859.88bn through its Fixed Rate Pakistan Investment Bonds (PIBs) auction
against bids worth Rs1.52tr. The 15-Year tenor attracted the highest
acceptance, while all bids for the 2-Year tenor were rejected.
Pakistan's headline inflation
eased to 9.2% year-on-year in July 2026 from 11.1% in June, although
consumer prices rose 1.2% month-on-month. Annual inflation moderated across
urban and rural areas, while monthly price pressures picked up.
Index Movers
Sector-wise performance remained broadly positive during the
week, with Commercial Banks contributing the largest gain to the KSE-100
Index by 1,919.00 points, followed by Cement (757.30 points), Fertilizer
(666.55 points), Oil & Gas Exploration Companies (547.27 points),
Power Generation & Distribution (369.53 points), Technology
& Communication (261.00 points), Investment Banks/Investment
Companies/Securities Companies (179.18 points),
Oil & Gas Marketing Companies (159.63 points), Automobile
Assembler (106.48 points) and Refinery (87.69 points).
Other sectors supporting the benchmark included Pharmaceuticals
(61.92 points), Property (52.22 points), Glass & Ceramics
(49.27 points), Engineering (33.67 points), Insurance (28.90
points),
Cable & Electrical Goods (28.79 points), Real
Estate Investment Trust (28.53 points), Food & Personal Care
Products (23.93 points), Leather & Tanneries (23.13 points), Textile
Spinning (19.47 points), Chemical (8.15 points), Tobacco (2.44
points) and Woollen (0.07 points).
The sectors ending the week in negative territory were Textile
Weaving (0.12 points), Vanaspati & Allied Industries (0.13 points),
Leasing Companies (0.16 points), Sugar & Allied Industries (1.48
points),
Modarabas (2.29 points), Close-End Mutual Fund
(3.17 points), Automobile Parts & Accessories (3.51 points), Transport
(5.66 points), Textile Composite (7.36 points), Paper, Board
& Packaging (9.51 points), Miscellaneous (22.32 points) and Synthetic
& Rayon (22.51 points).
Among individual stocks, FFC emerged as the largest
positive contributor to the index, adding 504.26 points, followed by HBL
(432.70 points), MEBL (410.71 points), UBL (324.89 points), MARI
(296.95 points), HUBC (291.77 points), LUCK (275.99 points), SYS
(204.63 points), BAHL (195.13 points) and ENGROH (173.26 points).
On the downside, MEHT was the biggest drag on the
benchmark, erasing 30.42 points, followed by IBFL (22.51 points),
NESTLE (16.04 points), PSEL (13.03 points), SHFA (12.74
points), KTML (11.37 points), PKGS (9.51 points), ILP

FIPI/LIPI
Foreign investors remained net sellers during the
week, recording net equity sales of Rs529.80m ($1.91m).
The selling was primarily driven by Foreign Corporates,
which offloaded equities worth Rs1.33bn ($4.78m). Overseas Pakistanis
remained net buyers with purchases of Rs802.39m ($2.89m), while Foreign
Individuals recorded net sales of Rs2.38m ($8,553).
On the local side, Mutual Funds emerged as the
largest buyers, with net equity purchases of Rs3.67bn ($13.20m).
Companies also remained net buyers with Rs1.23bn
($4.41m), followed by Broker Proprietary Trading with Rs876.67m
($3.15m).
The largest sellers were Banks/DFIs, which offloaded
equities worth Rs3.10bn ($11.16m).
Insurance Companies recorded net selling of Rs1.26bn
($4.54m), followed by Individuals with Rs819.53m ($2.95m), Other
Organizations with Rs45.97m ($165,346) and NBFCs with Rs12.97m
($46,655).
