Rawal Dam spillway reopened this morning

July 21, 2025 (MLN):  In anticipation of rainfall in the upper catchment areas, the spillway of Rawal Dam was reopened today, Monday, July 21, 2025, at 6:00 AM for approximately five hours.

This precautionary step aims to enhance the dam’s water discharge capacity and ensure effective flood management.

Authorities have issued a public advisory urging citizens to exercise caution during the spillway operation, said a press release.

Residents living near the dam are strongly advised to stay away from riverbanks and water channels, as these areas may become hazardous during the controlled water release.

People are also encouraged to limit unnecessary travel, particularly in low-lying or flood-prone areas that could be affected by rising water levels.

All fishing and boating activities are strictly prohibited during this period to prevent accidents and ensure public safety.

Citizens are urged to remain in contact with local authorities and follow all official updates regarding the situation.

In case of an emergency, the public should promptly follow instructions issued by the administration.

Those residing in vulnerable areas are also advised to secure their property and relocate livestock or valuable belongings to safer locations as a precaution against possible flooding.

The district administration emphasized that the measure is routine and preventive, aimed at safeguarding both infrastructure and nearby communities.
