Trump’s ‘Favourite Field Marshal’ praise lights up Peace Summit

October 14, 2025 (MLN): In a display of strengthening US-Pakistan ties, US President Donald Trump acknowledged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his “favourite field marshal from Pakistan”  Asim Munir during a surprise moment at the Sharm el-Sheikh Peace Summit.

Interrupting his own speech, Trump turned to Shehbaz and invited him to speak, saying, “Do you want to say something?” and urging him to “say what you said to me the other day,”

Taking the podium, PM Shehbaz expressed heartfelt gratitude to Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi for their relentless efforts in securing the Gaza peace deal.

“Today is one of the greatest days in contemporary history because peace has been achieved after untiring efforts led by President Trump, who is genuinely a man of peace who has relentlessly and untiringly worked throughout these months, day in and day out, to make this world a place to live with peace and prosperity,” Shehbaz said.

Retaking the podium, Trump quipped, “Wow! I didn’t expect that. Let’s go home, there’s nothing more I have to say. Goodbye everybody. That was really beautiful and beautifully delivered, thank you very much.”

The Sharm el-Sheikh Summit brought together international leaders to discuss the Gaza ceasefire and broader peace initiatives.

PM Shehbaz’s remarks not only reflected Pakistan’s appreciation of Trump’s diplomacy but also signaled a renewed warmth in US-Pakistan relations.
