August 28, 2026 (MLN): State Bank of Pakistan
(SBP) reported a 20% decline in its consolidated net profit for the fiscal year
ended June 30, 2026, recording Rs1.99trillion compared to Rs2.51 trillion in
the preceding fiscal year.
The primary factor driving the reduction in overall net
earnings was a contraction in total net interest income, which was partially
buffered by a powerful recovery in foreign exchange earnings and dividend
income.
Interest and mark-up expenses contracted by 20% to
Rs196.83bn (down from Rs245.43bn), net mark-up income dropped 26% to settle at
Rs1.92 trillion compared to Rs2.60 trillion in the prior year.
Non-mark-up revenue streams demonstrated notable
resilience across key segments.
Net exchange earnings posted a complete turnaround to
record an exchange gain of Rs76.40bn (reversing an exchange loss of Rs54.96bn
in FY25).
Dividend income expanded by 4.2x (320%) to reach
Rs57.29bn, while commission income rose 16% to Rs13.05bn and other operating
income grew 94% to Rs15.88bn.
Supported by
non-interest revenue, total gross income reached Rs2.11 trillion.
On the operational side, SBP saw overheads expand by
13%.
General administrative expenses rose 18% to Rs61.53bn,
while banknotes and prize bond printing charges grew 18% to Rs29.01bn.
Agency commissions declined by 6% to Rs13.40bn.
Operating expenses were slightly offset by net provision reversals of Rs285.30m
on doubtful assets and Rs528.66m on financial instruments.
Below the operating line, profit before taxation stood
at Rs2 trillion (down 20% from Rs2.51 trillion in FY25).
The central bank recorded a taxation credit of Rs3.20bn
for the year.
Supported by strong FX gains and dividend income
recovery, State Bank of Pakistan securely closed the fiscal year with a net
profit of Rs1.999 trillion.
Furthermore, the surplus profit has been remitted
to the Federal Government, according to a press release issued by SBP.
