Shariah-compliant equities reach 65% of PSX market cap: SECP

August 21, 2026 (MLN): Shariah-compliant equity securities account for 65% of the Pakistan Stock Exchange’s (PSX) market capitalization, with 309 equity securities classified as Shariah-compliant, said Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) Commissioner Imtiaz Haider.

Speaking at the fifth SECP Talk Series on “The Future of Islamic Finance: Pakistan and the Global Perspective,” Haider said the market capitalization of Shariah-compliant equities stands at Rs13.2 trillion.

He added that assets of Islamic mutual funds have reached Rs2.2tr, while 197 out of 389 mutual funds are Shariah-compliant.

Yousef Hassan Khalawi, Secretary General of the Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Development (ICCD), said Islamic finance is an important means of promoting financial inclusion and economic development.

Yousef Hassan Khalawi highlighted Sukuk, Shariah-compliant equities and Islamic mutual funds as key segments of the Islamic capital market.

He said Waqf and Islamic social finance can play an important role in achieving social and development objectives, while fintech is creating new opportunities for speed and access to financial services.

He stressed that effective monitoring of financial risks is necessary alongside fintech development, while innovation in Islamic finance must be pursued alongside adherence to Shariah principles.

Yousef Hassan Khalawi further said an effective regulatory framework is important for the development of the Islamic financial system.
