Service sector trade deficit shrinks to $140m in November

December 17, 2025 (MLN): The service sector of Pakistan posed a trade deficit of $140 million in November, showing a decline of 41.18% MoM, as compared to a deficit of $238m recorded in the previous month, the latest data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) showed.

Comparison on a yearly basis shows that the country reported a deficit of $150m in trade of services in the Same Period Last Year (SPLY).

Details made available by SBP further revealed that the exports of services in November went up by 21.89% YoY to $813m compared to $667m in November 2024.

Similarly, on a month wise basis, exports rose by 0.25% MoM compared to the figures for October 2025.

Cumulatively in 5MFY26, services exports climbed by 16.69% YoY to $3.832bn compared to exports of $3.284bn in 5MFY25.

Amongst the total exports in the review month, Telecommunications, Computer, and Information Services made the largest contribution with an amount of $356m in November, witnessing an increase of 14.47% YoY compared to exports in SPLY.

Meanwhile, Other Business Services held the second position, bringing $173m in November into the country.

In terms of growth, receipts from the exports of this section went up by 37.3% YoY compared to $126m in the same period last year.

On a sequential basis, other business services surged by 2.37% MoM compared to exports of $169m in October 2025.

Furthermore, the export of transport and travel services contributed an amount of $88m and $80m, respectively in the review period.

The imports of services during the year amounted to $953m, which rose by 16.65% YoY compared to imports worth $817m in SPLY.

On a monthly basis, imports have decreased compared to $1.049bn recorded in the previous month.

Cumulatively, the imports during 5MFY26 stood at $5.148bn, up by 12.8% YoY compared with the number during 5MFY25.

Amongst the total imports, the largest expenditure was incurred on Transport for an amount of $374m, witnessing an increase of 11.39% YoY and 6.02% MoM.

The Travel services cost the country around $264m, recording an increase by 15.94% YoY, while going down by 6.98% MoM.
