SECP registers 3,161 new companies in May

June 02, 2026 (MLN): The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) registered 3,161 new companies during May 2026, taking the total number of registered companies in the country to 297,239.

According to the regulator, 99.9% of the companies were incorporated through the online platform despite reduced working days during the month due to Eid-ul-Adha holidays.

During the month, the SECP also recorded the highest single-day company incorporation in its history, with 415 new companies registered in one day, showing growing corporatization and continued business formalization in the country.

Provincially, Punjab led with 1,643 new company registrations, accounting for 52% of the total, followed by Islamabad with 596 (19%) and Sindh with 479 (15%).

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recorded 260 new registrations, while Gilgit-Baltistan and Balochistan registered 112 and 71 companies, respectively.

Private limited companies remained the preferred business structure, accounting for 1,884 registrations or 60% of the total. Single-member companies (SMCs) followed with 1,212 registrations, representing 38%, while limited liability partnerships (LLPs) and other categories accounted for the remaining 65 registrations.

Sector-wise, the Information Technology and e-commerce segment recorded the highest number of new incorporations.

The Information Technology sector alone accounted for 598 new companies, followed by trading with 503, services with 404, and real estate and construction with 303 registrations.

The tourism and transport sector added 206 new companies during the month.

The SECP further stated that investors from 17 countries participated in 80 local companies registered during May.

Chinese investors remained the most active, with 89 shareholders obtaining directorships in companies, followed by Afghanistan with five shareholders, the United States with three, and Belgium, Russia, and South Korea with two shareholders each.

Foreign investors contributed paid-up capital of Rs139.4m during the month, with Chinese investors accounting for Rs132.3m of the total.
