May 10, 2026 (MLN): A liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier operated by a Qatar-based company has crossed the Strait of Hormuz and is headed to Pakistan, according to navigational data from Marine Traffic, marking the first confirmed crossing since the outbreak of the regional conflict.

The LNG carrier Al-Kharaitiyat departed from Qatar’s Ras Laffan industrial port and is scheduled to unload its cargo at Port Qasim in Karachi, according to shipping data cited by Al Jazeera.

The development comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East and growing concerns over potential disruptions to global energy supplies through the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for oil and LNG shipments.

Pakistan relies heavily on LNG imports from Qatar to meet domestic energy demand, with cargoes regularly arriving at Port Qasim under long-term supply agreements.
