Power generation rises 8% YoY in August 2025

September 18, 2025 (MLN): The total power generation in the country increased by 7.9% to 14,218 GWh during August as compared to 13,179 GWh in the same month of last year.

According to the monthly electricity generation data released by the National Electric Power Authority (NEPRA), the total power generation increased by 0.7% MoM compared to 14,123 GWh in July 2025.

On a cumulative basis, in 2MFY26, electricity generation stood at 28,341 GWh, 1% YoY compared to the generation of 28,059 in 2MFY25.

Production of Coal (local) and Hydel production increased by 30% and 3% YoY, respectively, while Nuclear, Solar, and Gas saw changes of -2%, 6%, and 9%, respectively, with RLNG saw a 4% change.

Share-wise, Nuclear held the majority share of electricity generation during the month, clocking in at 53%.

Cumulatively, RFO took the lead in electricity generation with a share of 86% in 2MFY26.

Wind followed at 31%, with Coal contributing 13% and Hydel at 5%.
