August 22, 2025 (MLN): The total power generation in the country declined by 5% year-on-year (YoY) to 14,123 GWh during July 2025, as compared to 14,880 GWh in the same month of last year.

According to the monthly electricity generation data released by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), the total power generation increased by 3% month-on-month (MoM) compared to 13,744 GWh in June 2025.

July’s decline in power generation was primarily attributable to reduced demand, owing to the monsoon season, particularly in Punjab and KPK.

The cost of power generation fell by 13% YoY to Rs7.78/KWh and remained below the reference benchmark.

Production from Hydel and Wind rose by 6% and 33% YoY, respectively, while Nuclear, Gas, Solar, and Others saw changes of -29%, -7%, -5% and -30%, respectively. RLNG also posted a 18% decline YoY.

Share-wise, Hydel led electricity generation during July 2025, contributing 40.1% of the total generation.

This was followed by RLNG at 17.3%, Local Coal at 10.6%, Nuclear at 9.9%, and Gas at 7.7%.
