August 13, 2026 (MLN): The Ministry of Energy (Power Division) has rolled out Pakistan's first National Power Sector Innovation Programme, with the Innovation Hub serving as the programme's dedicated digital platform.

The initiative marks a significant step towards building a national institutional framework for innovation in the country's power sector, connecting young talent, researchers, universities, startups, industry and experts through the Innovation Hub to develop practical solutions to Pakistan's energy challenges.

More than Rs1bn will be allocated over the next three years for mentorship, technical assistance, pilot implementation and scaling of successful innovations, said a press release issued.

Federal Minister for Energy (Power Division) Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, addressing the launch, said the world was changing rapidly, driven by artificial intelligence, digitalization, emerging technologies and new business models, and that the power sector therefore needed not just greater effort but greater innovation, creative thinking and continuous improvement.

He said the programme was not merely a competition but the first national institutional framework of its kind for the power sector, designed to identify, evaluate, mentor and support innovative ideas and transform them into practical solutions.

The programme aims to identify, evaluate, mentor and support promising ideas, turning innovative concepts and research into tested, scalable solutions that can contribute to a more efficient, reliable and sustainable power sector.

The minister invited young Pakistanis to take part in the programme and put forward innovative ideas to help address challenges facing the power sector, saying aspiring innovators, students, researchers, startups and young professionals could submit their ideas through the Innovation Hub platform to become part of a national effort to shape the future of energy in Pakistan.

The programme provides a pathway for promising ideas to move beyond concepts and research towards mentorship, technical support, pilot implementation and national-scale deployment.
