Pakistan’s green startups step onto global stage

July 30,2025(MLN): Pakistan has facilitated five green startups to showcase their climate innovations at the SDG Fair in Seville, Spain, while also agreeing with Ethiopia to strengthen climate cooperation through joint afforestation and environmental initiatives.

The developments came during a bilateral meeting between Pakistan’s Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Dr. Musadik Malik, and Ethiopia’s Ambassador Jemal Beker Abdulla, said a press release.

The two sides explored collaboration between Ethiopia’s Green Legacy Initiative and Pakistan’s Green Pakistan Programme, focusing on large-scale plantation drives, community-led conservation, and knowledge exchange.

Ambassador Abdulla emphasized the urgency of global climate action, noting that nations like Pakistan face severe climate impacts despite having contributed minimally to the crisis.

He also shared Ethiopia’s experience with its Green Legacy Initiative, launched in 2019 to promote sustainable development and women’s empowerment.

Dr. Malik highlighted the importance of youth engagement in climate resilience and outlined the Ministry’s support for green entrepreneurship, citing the participation of Pakistani startups at the Seville fair as a key step toward scaling local climate solutions.

He further raised concerns over growing food insecurity amid population pressures, calling for integrated approaches to sustainable agriculture and water management.

Both nations expressed their commitment to advancing shared climate goals and building a greener, more resilient future through bilateral cooperation and global partnerships.
