Pakistan's external financing hits $16bn in FY26

July 18, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan secured $4.04bn in external financing in June 2026, closing out FY26 (July 2025–June 2026) with a cumulative total of $16.16bn, the latest report by the Economic Affairs Division (EAD) showed.

Disbursements from bilateral and multilateral development partners totalled $1.96bn in June, taking the full-year total to $6.39bn, while a $1.7bn commercial loan from China Development Bank was the single largest inflow of the month.

Foreign assistance through multilateral sources amounted to $1.93bn in June, lifting the FY26 cumulative total to $5.03bn. Bilateral development partners contributed $29.35m in June, with their full-year total reaching $1.36bn.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) was the leading multilateral donor in June, disbursing $953.74m during the month and taking its FY26 cumulative total to $1.77bn.

The Islamic Development Bank's short-term facility, IsDB (ST), contributed $535.63m in June, with its cumulative disbursements for the year rising to $1.02bn.

The International Development Association (IDA) disbursed $356.09m in June, lifting its FY26 cumulative total to $1.51bn.

The International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) contributed $68.66m during the month, bringing its cumulative total to $516.12m.

 The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) disbursed $9.63m in June, taking its FY26 total to $123.86m, while the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) added $2.55m, lifting its cumulative total to $68.13m.

Among bilateral donors, Denmark disbursed $18.78m in June, its FY26 cumulative total reaching $89.93m.

France contributed $8.70m during the month, taking its cumulative total to $71.68m. Germany disbursed $0.62m in June, lifting its full-year total to $13.35m, while Saudi Arabia added $1.09m, with its cumulative disbursements rising to $1.01bn for the year.

China disbursed $0.16m in June under non-guaranteed bilateral flows, taking its FY26 cumulative total to $108.24m, while guaranteed Chinese loans held steady at $392.82m for the year with no fresh disbursement in June.

Japan, Korea, Kuwait and the US recorded no disbursements in June, with their cumulative totals unchanged at $26.69m, $9.49m, $22.06m and $0.64m, respectively.

Under commercial banks, China Development Bank disbursed a $1.7bn loan in June, its first for the year, while Standard Chartered Bank (London) contributed $1.43m, lifting its cumulative total to $203.33m. Combined commercial bank inflows for FY26 stood at $1.90bn.

The IMF recorded no disbursement in June, with its FY26 cumulative total remaining at $420.78m. Bond-related inflows also saw no fresh activity during the month, holding at $1.00bn for the year.

Foreign commercial borrowing through the Naya Pakistan Certificate (NPC) scheme totalled $386.05m in June, comprising $161.78m under the conventional facility and $224.27m under the Islamic facility, lifting the FY26 cumulative NPC total to $3.05bn.

On a purposewise basis, non-project aid in June amounted to $3.61bn, including $2.09bn in budgetary support and $535.63m under the IsDB short-term facility, reflecting continued reliance on programme-based inflows for macroeconomic stabilisation.

Cumulatively, non-project disbursements for FY26 reached $12.72bn. Project-based disbursements stood at $437.68m in June, with a cumulative total of $3.44bn for the year.
