Pakistan's IT exports set to hit $4.6bn

May 11, 2026 (MLN):  Pakistan's domestic internet connections have surged from 1.9 million to 5.1 million this year, while IT exports are projected to reach $4.6 billion in the current fiscal year.

The country's recent 5G spectrum auction  described as the world's largest since 2016,  generated $509 million in revenue.

It was also highlighted that the February 2025 "Indus AI Week," which spanned 30 cities, drew over 100 international delegates, and featured 88 pavilions, APP reported.

Fiber connectivity has been extended to government schools and health units in Islamabad, with free internet hotspots in the capital nearing completion, while e-learning pods are being installed at Saidpur Model Village and Fatima Jinnah Park.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, chairing a review meeting on the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, directed authorities to accelerate the establishment of Asaan Khidmat Centers in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and to work with provincial governments to roll out the facilities nationwide.

He stressed the need to bridge the digital divide between urban and rural areas and said harnessing the potential of Pakistan's youth in the IT sector remained a key government priority.

The meeting was attended by federal ministers Ahsan Iqbal, Azam Nazeer Tarar, Ahad Khan Cheema, and Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Minister of State for Finance and Railways Bilal Azhar Kayani, and senior government officials.
