Pakistan warns Houthi attacks could disrupt global energy supplies

September 14, 2026 (MLN): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has warned that recent Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia’s civilian and economic infrastructure could threaten regional security and disrupt global energy supplies.

During a telephone conversation with Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, Shehbaz Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s strong condemnation of the attacks and expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia, said a press release issued.

The Prime Minister said the attacks could further disrupt the global economy and energy supplies amid heightened tensions in the region.

Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan would continue efforts, alongside Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, to defuse tensions and promote peace in the region.

The development comes at a time when escalating Middle East tensions have already pushed global oil prices higher, creating additional risks for oil-importing economies such as Pakistan.

Pakistan meets a substantial portion of its domestic petroleum requirements through imports, making a sustained increase in international crude prices a potential source of pressure on the country’s import bill, current account and domestic fuel prices.

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman appreciated Pakistan’s support for Saudi Arabia and its efforts toward regional peace and stability.

The two leaders agreed to remain in close contact and meet at an early date.
