Pakistan secures over $1bn external financing in May 2026

June 18, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan secured $1.03bn in external financing in May
2026, bringing the cumulative 11MFY26 (July–May) total to $12.11bn, the latest
monthly report by the Economic Affairs Division (EAD) showed.
Disbursements from
bilateral and multilateral development partners totaled $266.95m in May and
$4.43bn during 10MFY26.
Foreign assistance
through multilateral sources amounted to $224.82m in May and $3.11bn
cumulatively in 11MFY26.
Bilateral
development partners contributed $42.14m in May and $1.32bn for the 11-month
period.
The Asian
Development Bank (ADB) remained the second leading multilateral donor, disbursed
$56.08m in May and bringing its cumulative Jul–May total to $818.36m.
The International
Development Association (IDA) lead by contributing $114.96m in May, with its eleven-month
cumulative disbursements rising to $1.15bn.
The International
Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) disbursed $30.56m in May,
lifting its cumulative total to $448.16m, largely in support of power sector
and urban development projects.
The Asian
Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) contributed $9.66m in May, bringing its 11MFY26
cumulative total to $114.13m.
Among bilateral
donors, Saudi Arabia, disbursed $0.79m in May with its cumulative eleven-month
total reaching $1.01bn.
China disbursed
$35.81m in May comprising both
guaranteed loans and non-guaranteed bilateral flows bringing its combined 11MFY26 total to
$108.09m under non-guaranteed flows alone, with guaranteed Chinese loans adding
a further $392.82m cumulatively.
Japan contributed
$1.46m in May, with its cumulative Jul–May total at $26.69m. Germany disbursed
$0.14m in May, bringing its eleven-month total to $12.73m.
Foreign commercial
borrowing through the Naya Pakistan Certificate (NPC) scheme totalled $295.50m
in May comprising $88.15m under the conventional facility and $207.36m under
the Islamic facility lifting the
cumulative 11MFY26 NPC total to $2.66bn.
The IMF disbursed
$211.27m in May, bringing cumulative disbursements to $420.78m for the eleven-month
period.
Bond-related inflows
stood at $255.81m in May, raising the eleven-month total to $1.00bn.
On a purposewise
basis, non-project aid in May amounted to $795.20m, including $762.58m in
budgetary support, reflecting continued reliance on programme-based inflows for
macroeconomic stabilisation.
Cumulatively,
non-project disbursements for July–May reached $9.11bn. Project-based
disbursements stood at $234.34m in May, with a cumulative total of $2.999bn for
the eleven-month period.
