October 08, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan has reaffirmed its unwavering
commitment to the purposes and principles of the United Nations (UN) Charter,
with multilateralism, anchored in the UN, described as a fundamental pillar of
its foreign policy.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign
Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar spoke at a talk by UN Secretary-General
António Guterres titled "Strengthening Multilateralism in a Changing World
Geopolitics and the Role of the United Nations", organised by the Foreign
Service Academy.
Members of the diplomatic corps,
representatives of think tanks and officers of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
attended the session, according to a press release issued.
Ishaq Dar also stressed the need to
uphold international law and implement UN Security Council resolutions.
He emphasised diplomacy and a just and
peaceful settlement of the Palestinian question and the Jammu and Kashmir
dispute.
António Guterres, for his part, spoke
of Pakistan's generosity, resilience and solidarity, drawing on his two decades
of service with the UN, including his tenure as High Commissioner for Refugees.
He cautioned that the world faces a
set of interlinked challenges, including conflict, inequality, climate change
and artificial intelligence, and said stronger multilateral cooperation through
a reformed and more representative UN was essential.
He concluded by voicing confidence in
the people of Pakistan and their spirit of dialogue, cooperation and mutual
respect.
