November 06, 2025 (MLN): The government is set to
declare the marble sector an industry in a major move aimed at unlocking its
export potential and driving economic growth.
This came during a meeting chaired by Special Assistant to
the Prime Minister on Industries and Production, Mr. Haroon Akhtar Khan, with
representatives of the All-Pakistan Marble Industry Association and the
Pakistan Stone Development Company (PASDEC), said a press release issued.
Participants discussed bottlenecks in marble exports,
challenges in value addition, and measures to incentivize and facilitate growth
in the sector.
Mr. Khan revealed that a National Marble Policy is
being finalized to address existing challenges and promote sustainable
industrial expansion. “The marble of Pakistan is of world-class quality, and
there is a need to increase its exports through value addition and better
branding,” he said.
He added that the government is working closely with
industrial stakeholders to introduce policy-level reforms that will enhance
competitiveness and productivity in the marble industry.
Highlighting the sector’s potential, the SAPM noted that its
stabilization would generate new employment opportunities, assuring that the
government would extend full support to investors and exporters.
Mr. Khan emphasized the importance of training, modern
skills, and technical assistance to make the industry more efficient and
globally competitive.
He urged PASDEC and private stakeholders to adopt modern
technology and innovation in marble processing.
He further directed PASDEC and the Marble Association to develop proposals for collaboration with Italy, focusing on technology transfer, capacity building, and export enhancement.
