June 22, 2026 (MLN): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has declared the successful conclusion of the first High-Level Committee meeting held under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, describing the discussions as positive, constructive, and encouraging.
In a statement shared on X, the prime minister said the
talks resulted in significant progress, with participating sides agreeing on a
roadmap aimed at reaching a final agreement within the next 60 days.
The meeting also endorsed the formation of a High-Level
Committee to provide political oversight and approved the continuation of
technical-level negotiations, according to Radio Pakistan.
Shehbaz Sharif said the outcome showed the commitment of
both the United States and Iran to sustained diplomatic engagement and
constructive dialogue.
He also acknowledged the support of friendly and brotherly
countries that helped facilitate the process and advance the negotiations.
The prime minister particularly thanked Qatar for its role
in helping create conditions conducive to the talks, while also expressing
appreciation to the Swiss government for hosting and facilitating the meeting.
Highlighting Pakistan’s contribution to the diplomatic
effort, Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to Field Marshal Asim Munir, saying his
dedication, persistence, and leadership were instrumental in moving the process
forward and achieving progress in the negotiations.
He also praised Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister
Ishaq Dar and officials of the Foreign Office for their diplomatic efforts
throughout the engagement.
In addition, he acknowledged the contribution of Interior
Minister Mohsin Naqvi, whose support, he said, played an important role in the
successful conduct of the talks.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to peace and diplomacy,
the prime minister said the country would continue to play a sincere and
constructive role in promoting dialogue and supporting efforts aimed at
achieving a peaceful and durable resolution to ongoing international
challenges.
