August 21, 2026 (MLN): Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb held talks with Secretary-General of the Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Development (ICCD) Shaikh Yousef Hassan Khalawi on expanding economic cooperation, developing halal markets and strengthening Pakistan’s Islamic finance ecosystem.

The meeting focused on ways to enhance connectivity between Pakistani businesses and international private-sector networks through ICCD’s global platforms and outreach.

Shaikh Yousef Hassan Khalawi briefed the finance minister on ICCD’s growing engagement with business communities in both OIC and non-OIC countries, aimed at fostering cross-border partnerships and expanding halal economic activity.

Discussions also covered Pakistan’s potential to increase its share in the global halal economy, particularly in halal food, fashion, tourism, services and consumer products.

Muhammad Aurangzeb stressed the need to identify specific sectors, products and target markets where Pakistani companies can develop commercially viable offerings and expand exports.

The participants explored avenues to deepen cooperation in Islamic finance and strengthen Pakistan’s links with international institutions and platforms focused on Islamic economics and finance.

Shaikh Yousef Hassan Khalawi also shared international experiences in halal business development, sustainable tourism and Islamic economic cooperation, emphasizing the need for market-driven strategies based on international demand.

The meeting further considered international conferences, business forums and other ICCD-led platforms that could connect Pakistani enterprises with global business communities and facilitate new commercial opportunities.

Muhammad Aurangzeb welcomed ICCD’s engagement with Pakistan and called for continued interaction with the country’s business community to identify practical areas of cooperation and improve access to international markets.
