June 08, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan has implemented sweeping economic reforms since 2024 to modernize its tax system, expand digital payments, and streamline trade, with tax collection growing 26% during fiscal year 2025.

The reforms brought over 34,000 taxpayers onto the online billing system and deployed 43,000 digital billing machines to improve compliance.

Artificial intelligence was integrated to detect tax evasion, resulting in the recovery of billions of rupees from key industrial sectors, according to Radio Pakistan.

Under the Digital Pakistan initiative, RAAST expanded its digital payments network to 50 million additional individuals and 1.1 million businesses, bringing its total user base to 130 million.

Online payment facilities were also extended across public institutions, including NADRA, easing fee submissions and other transactions for citizens.

On the trade front, the government launched its first major tariff overhaul under the National Tariff Policy 2025-30, aimed at creating a more business-friendly environment and boosting trade activity.
