Pakistan customs foils around Rs158m smuggling attempt

November 27, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan Customs seized mobile phones, weapon parts, liquor, and pork meat worth an estimated Rs157.7 million in two separate operations at Sost Dry Port and the Baggage Section in Gilgit-Baltistan, according to the press release.

The seizures were made after customs teams, acting on specific intelligence, inspected two consignments arriving from China.

Officers recovered 59,000 Nokia 105 mobile phones, batteries, 5,200 pieces of medicine weighing 318 kg, 3,000 Sildenafil Citrate tablets, and assorted weapon components from the Dry Port.

In a parallel action at the Baggage Section, officials confiscated 80 bottles (20 litres) of liquor and 40 kg of pork meat brought through the Khunjerab Pass, both banned under Pakistan’s import rules.

Authorities estimate the evaded duty and taxes at Rs78.5m, and the confiscated items have been detained under the Customs Act, 1969.

Legal proceedings are underway. Officials said the operations show ongoing efforts to curb cross-border smuggling and protect state revenue along the China–Pakistan border route.
