Punjab launches fully digital public transport permit system

April 01, 2026 (MLN): Punjab’s public transport route permit system has been fully digitalized and integrated with the SECP’s insurance repository, enabling digital verification of third-party motor insurance.

Issuance and renewal of route permits will now be conditional on valid third-party insurance, ensuring financial protection for passengers, drivers, and individuals affected in accidents, according to a press release issued.

The integration was officially launched at SECP.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Kabir Sidhu highlighted that the insurance repository currently holds data for nearly 1 million vehicles.

He noted that while insurance coverage remains limited compared to the total number of vehicles in the country, emergency measures are underway to expand it.

Dr. Sidhu also mentioned proposed federal-level amendments to implement third-party insurance on a no-fault basis, ensuring timely compensation in case of accidents.
