Pakistan cancels third LNG spot tender

May 11, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan has cancelled a third liquefied natural gas (LNG) spot cargo tender, according to a notice published on the website of state-run Pakistan LNG Limited on May 11.

Earlier, PLL had invited bids for two spot LNG cargoes for May delivery on May 9.

However, the latest cancellation comes amid expectations that Pakistan will soon begin receiving LNG shipments from Qatar, easing immediate import requirements.

The cancelled spot tender reflects improved near-term supply visibility, as Pakistan prepares to receive its first LNG cargo after a gap of around two months.

Pakistan typically imports an average of nine to 10 LNG cargoes per month from Qatar under long-term agreements, making Qatar a key supplier for the country’s energy needs.

According to PLL, Pakistan is scheduled to import its first LNG cargo of approximately 140,000 cubic meters during the May 12–16 window, followed by a second cargo of a similar volume between May 24–28.

Each shipment carries a tolerance of plus or minus 2%.

The development highlights shifting short-term procurement needs as Pakistan balances spot market purchases with contractual LNG inflows to manage energy demand and pricing volatility.
