Pakistan accelerates economic reforms with World Bank support

February 2, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan is advancing a comprehensive, home-grown economic reform agenda aimed at sustainable stability and growth.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif discussed the reforms with
World Bank Group President Ajay Banga during a meeting in Islamabad today,
as reported by APP.
Both leaders stressed the need to fast-track
implementation and ensure strong oversight to deliver results on CPF-aligned
priorities and address development project bottlenecks.
The Prime Minister appreciated the World Bank Group’s
support in resilient infrastructure, agribusiness, energy, digital development,
human capital, fiscal reforms, and boosting private investment for job
creation.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to structural
reforms to promote job-rich growth and strengthen investor confidence.
Ajay Banga commended Pakistan’s reform efforts and reaffirmed the World Bank’s commitment to deepening cooperation through a One World Bank Group approach.
World Bank President Ajay Banga also visited the JaulianBuddhist site in Khanpur, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and appreciated the province’s
efforts in preserving its cultural heritage.
He was briefed on ongoing preservation initiatives and
assured support from the World Bank, while discussions also touched on economic
and tourism development in the region.
