UN Chief lauds Pakistan's peace role

April 16, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan and the United Nations have held discussions on the global economic implications of the ongoing Middle East crisis, with particular focus on its impact on food and energy security in developing countries, on the sidelines of the launch of the Borrowers' Platform in Washington, D.C.

The UN Secretary-General also commended Pakistan's role in facilitating peace and stability in the region and beyond.

Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, met with Mr. António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, on the sidelines of the Borrowers' Platform launch event, where the two sides held discussions on pressing global economic challenges, according to a press release issued.

The Finance Minister appreciated the UN Secretary-General's participation in the launch event and thanked him for his support in the establishment of the Borrowers' Platform, underlining its significance as an important multilateral initiative.

The UN Secretary-General expressed confidence in Pakistan's continued constructive engagement on the global stage, recognising its efforts toward regional peace and stability.
