April 03, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan and Tajikistan have moved closer to formalizing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on mutual legal cooperation, as both sides agreed to accelerate coordination for its early signing.

The proposed agreement aims to enhance collaboration in legal affairs, promote exchange of expertise, and strengthen institutional linkages to improve access to justice, transparency, and investor confidence in both countries.

The development came during a meeting between Sharifzoda Yusuf Toir, Ambassador of Tajikistan to Pakistan, and Azam Nazeer Tarar at the Ministry of Law and Justice in Islamabad, according to a press release issued.

During the meeting, both sides emphasized the longstanding brotherly relations between Pakistan and Tajikistan, rooted in shared cultural heritage, historical linkages, and mutual goodwill. They emphasized the need to further strengthen cooperation, particularly in legal and institutional domains.

A key focus remained the proposed MoU between the respective Ministries of Justice, which is expected to facilitate collaboration in legal affairs, including the exchange of legal professionals, capacity-building initiatives, and specialized training programs.

Both sides also highlighted the importance of cooperation in areas such as commercial law, dispute resolution, arbitration, mediation, and cross-border legal frameworks.

Enhanced coordination, they noted, would contribute to more efficient institutions and predictable legal systems, encouraging greater investor confidence.

The minister appreciated the ambassador’s efforts in deepening bilateral ties and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to expanding engagement with Tajikistan, especially in legal and judicial cooperation.

The meeting concluded with both sides expressing optimism and commitment to finalize and sign the MoU in the near future.
