November 27, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan and Saudi Arabia are moving toward deeper maritime collaboration and enhanced regional connectivity following a high-level meeting held during the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Assembly in London, according to the press release.
Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar
Chaudhry met with Saudi Minister of Transport Saleh Al Jasser, where both sides
reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening ties in shipping, port
development, maritime logistics, and technical training.
During the discussion, the two ministers reviewed existing
cooperation and explored fresh opportunities for joint ventures that align with
Pakistan’s Maritime Vision 2047, an ambitious long-term plan aimed at
modernizing national ports, expanding shipping capacity, and attracting foreign
investment into Pakistan’s maritime sector.
The Pakistani minister stressed three significant
initiatives designed to elevate bilateral maritime engagement.
These included a potential partnership between Pakistan
National Shipping Corporation and Saudi Arabia’s Albehri shipping line,
expanded business-to-business cooperation among maritime firms from both
countries, and a proposed sister-port arrangement between Karachi Port Trust
and Jeddah Islamic Port to promote trade facilitation and technical exchange.
The Saudi delegation welcomed Pakistan’s proposals and expressed readiness to move forward by sharing a draft Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that would formalize long-term maritime cooperation and create an institutional framework for structured collaboration.
