Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye review Makkah Defence Pact progress

September 25, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye have reviewed progress on establishing the institutional structures envisaged under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement, reaffirming their commitment to deepening trilateral defence cooperation.

The review took place during a meeting between Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, held on the sidelines of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, said a press release issued.

In a post on X, Ishaq Dar said the three sides also exchanged views on regional and international security issues.

Recently in August, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkey signed the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement, establishing a trilateral security framework aimed at strengthening collective defence and regional stability.

The agreement had come as the three Sunni Muslim allies of the United States respond to escalating regional tensions that have seen Gulf oil-exporting states targeted by missile attacks and disruptions to energy shipments.

The Makkah Joint Defence Agreement could lay the groundwork for a wider regional security framework, with its potential expansion to other countries offering a pathway towards enhanced peace and stability.
