Pakistan, Russia move to boost strategic cooperation

November 19, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan and Russia agreed to expand cooperation across political, economic and security spheres following high-level discussions in Moscow, where top officials from both countries met on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Heads of Government, according to Radio Pakistan. 

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk reviewed the state of bilateral ties and discussed plans to strengthen collaboration in energy, connectivity, transit, agriculture, industrial development, education and people-to-people exchanges.

The engagement signals renewed momentum in Pakistan-Russia relations at a time when regional trade corridors and energy partnerships are gaining strategic weight.

Overchuk highlighted Russia’s view of Pakistan as a potential regional transit hub, recalling his recent visits tied to discussions on connectivity and economic projects.

The two sides also reaffirmed their cooperation at multilateral platforms, including the United Nations and the SCO, amid shifting geopolitical alignments in Central and South Asia.

Both leaders exchanged assessments on key regional and global developments, with the dialogue expected to feed into ongoing economic and security consultations between Islamabad and Moscow.
