June 22, 2026 (MLN):  Pakistan and Qatar have outlined significant progress in high-level negotiations between the United States and Iran, with the parties agreeing on a roadmap aimed at reaching a final agreement within 60 days following the conclusion of the Lake Lucerne Summit in Switzerland.

According to a joint statement issued by Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the State of Qatar, the first session of high-level talks under the framework of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) concluded in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, with the participation of representatives from Iran, the United States, and the two mediating countries, Pakistan and Qatar.

The statement said the talks were held in a "positive and constructive atmosphere," with encouraging progress made, including the creation of a mechanism to facilitate further technical discussions.

Building on the MoU, the parties agreed to establish a High-Level Committee that will provide political oversight to the mediation process. Chief negotiators will report regularly to the committee and lead working groups focusing on key issues, including the nuclear file, sanctions, monitoring arrangements, and dispute resolution mechanisms to ensure the effective implementation of the agreement.

The High-Level Committee has also agreed on a roadmap toward a final deal within 60 days, laying the groundwork for the immediate commencement of additional technical talks.

Furthermore, a communication channel has been established between the parties to prevent incidents and miscommunication and to ensure the safe passage of commercial vessels through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.

In another significant development, the parties agreed to establish a de-confliction cell, involving Lebanon and facilitated by Pakistan and Qatar, to ensure adherence to the cessation of military operations in Lebanon as outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding. Technical discussions are expected to continue at the Bürgenstock resort throughout the remainder of the week.

The mediating countries reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that the negotiations continue in a constructive atmosphere with the objective of reaching a final agreement.

Pakistan and Qatar also expressed appreciation to the United States and Iran for their continued commitment to diplomacy and the peaceful resolution of the conflict, while commending other friendly nations for their support and contributions to the ongoing negotiations.

The developments at the Lake Lucerne Summit mark a notable diplomatic step toward easing regional tensions, with the establishment of a 60-day framework and multiple working mechanisms indicating renewed momentum in efforts to address longstanding disputes between Washington and Tehran.
