September 09, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan and New Zealand have agreed to translate their recently signed education cooperation framework into practical programmes focused on skills development, industry-responsive technical training and higher education.

The understanding was reached during a meeting between Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training and New Zealand’s Non-Resident High Commissioner to Pakistan, David Pine, said a press release issued.

The two sides reviewed opportunities to strengthen bilateral cooperation following the signing of an Education Cooperation Arrangement on August 6, 2026, in Wellington.

The arrangement provides a framework for cooperation across school education, technical and vocational education and training (TVET), and higher education.

Skills development emerged as a key focus of the discussions, with both sides exploring ways to strengthen institutional linkages and align technical training more closely with industry requirements.

The talks also covered potential cooperation in emerging and high-growth sectors, including information technology, services and agriculture.

Pakistan’s education minister stressed that the agreement should move beyond a formal framework and translate into concrete initiatives benefiting students, educational institutions and the workforce.

The minister emphasized continued engagement to identify priority areas and develop practical programmes capable of contributing to human capital development and economic growth.

New Zealand High Commissioner David Pine reaffirmed his country’s commitment to mutually beneficial cooperation with Pakistan in education and skills development.

The renewed focus on TVET and industry-responsive skills comes as Pakistan seeks to strengthen its human capital base and expand employment opportunities in sectors with growing demand for skilled workers.

The two countries are now expected to maintain engagement to identify specific projects and institutional partnerships under the newly established cooperation framework.
