Pakistan, Italy strengthen relations through parliamentary diplomacy, trade

September 25, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan and Italy reaffirmed their warm and cooperative relations during a high-level luncheon in Islamabad, with both sides emphasizing mutual respect, growing trade ties, and the importance of parliamentary exchanges in shaping an enduring partnerships.
The luncheon was
hosted by Senator Sarmad Ali, Chairman of the Pakistan–Italy Parliamentary
Friendship Group, in honor of the Italian Ambassador to Pakistan, Mrs. Marilina
Armellin.
Chairman Senate,
Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani, stressed that Italy remains one of Pakistan’s largest
trading partners within the European Union (EU).
He stressed the
importance of further strengthening economic and political linkages between the
two countries, highlighting that the vibrant Pakistani diaspora in Italy serves
as a vital bridge, contributing to closer cultural and economic ties.
Ambassador
Marilina Armellin expressed appreciation for the work of the Parliamentary
Friendship Groups in both Pakistan and Italy.
Conveying
greetings from Ms. Sara Ferrari, Chairperson of the Italy–Pakistan Friendship
Group in the Italian Parliament, she expressed hope that Ms. Ferrari would
visit Pakistan soon.
She noted that
Senate delegations, including Chairman Gillani, had already visited Italy twice
over the past year, and voiced confidence that Italian parliamentarians would
reciprocate with similar visits to deepen bilateral parliamentary diplomacy.
Senator Sarmad
Ali, in his remarks, thanked Ambassador Armellin for her continued support and
emphasized the importance of sustained parliamentary exchanges in strengthening
cooperation.
He noted that
active interaction between the two Friendship Groups will play a pivotal role
in building long-term parliamentary diplomacy and consolidating Pakistan–Italy
relations.
The luncheon was attended by several key figures, including Federal Law Minister Senator Azam Nazir Tarrar, Minister of State for Law Barrister Aqeel Malik, Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Syed Naveed Qamar, Senator Shahadat Awan, and Advisor to Chairman Senate & Ambassador ISC Misbah Khar.
