Pakistan, Iran reaffirm peace commitment

June 24, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan and Iran have reiterated their resolve to further strengthen bilateral relations and promote peace and stability across the region during a meeting between President Asif Ali Zardari and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Islamabad on Tuesday.

During the meeting, President Zardari congratulated President Pezeshkian on the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding and expressed optimism that the ongoing technical-level negotiations would contribute to lasting peace in the region.

The Pakistani president reaffirmed Pakistan’s principled support for Iran’s peace, stability, national unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, according to Radio Pakistan.

He emphasized that Pakistan has consistently opposed one-sided initiatives and has advocated dialogue and diplomacy as the preferred path toward achieving durable and sustainable solutions to regional and international challenges.

President Pezeshkian thanked Pakistan for its constructive role in supporting peace and dialogue and acknowledged the support extended by Islamabad during recent difficult circumstances.

The Iranian president said Tehran places significant importance on its relationship with Pakistan and looks forward to expanding cooperation in political, economic, security, and regional affairs.

The two leaders also exchanged views on bilateral relations, regional peace and security, connectivity initiatives, economic cooperation, and other matters of mutual interest.
