Pakistan, Iran pledge deeper cooperation for regional peace

June 24, 2026 (MLN): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to supporting peace and stability in the region, emphasizing that Islamabad would continue to play a constructive role in fostering dialogue and cooperation among regional nations.
Speaking during delegation-level talks with Iranian
President Masoud Pezeshkian in Islamabad, the prime minister described Pakistan
and Iran as close partners bound by deep-rooted historical, cultural, and
religious ties.
He said the relationship between the two neighboring
countries was founded on mutual trust and respect, adding that Pakistan
remained committed to standing by Iran in the spirit of brotherhood, according
to Radio Pakistan.
The premier praised the Iranian leadership and people for
their steadfastness during recent challenges and welcomed efforts aimed at
reducing tensions and promoting stability in the wider region.
He also acknowledged the contribution of Syed Asim Munir in
supporting diplomatic initiatives that helped pave the way for a ceasefire and
the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding between Iran and the
United States.
Shehbaz Sharif expressed appreciation for the role played by
regional partners, including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and Egypt, in
facilitating efforts that contributed to the peace process.
Welcoming President Pezeshkian and his delegation to
Pakistan, the prime minister reiterated Islamabad’s desire to further expand
bilateral cooperation with Tehran across multiple sectors.
He highlighted the importance of enhancing economic
collaboration, increasing trade and investment, and exploring opportunities for
joint development and reconstruction initiatives.
The prime minister said both countries were committed to
utilizing their respective strengths to advance shared economic interests and
deepen people-to-people connections.
He added that Pakistan and Iran would continue working
closely to promote peace, stability, and sustainable development across the
Middle East, the Gulf region, and South Asia.
The talks also emphasized the mutual resolve of both sides
to strengthen bilateral engagement and transform their longstanding
relationship into a broader partnership focused on regional prosperity and
security.
