June 24, 2026 (MLN): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to supporting peace and stability in the region, emphasizing that Islamabad would continue to play a constructive role in fostering dialogue and cooperation among regional nations.

Speaking during delegation-level talks with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Islamabad, the prime minister described Pakistan and Iran as close partners bound by deep-rooted historical, cultural, and religious ties.

He said the relationship between the two neighboring countries was founded on mutual trust and respect, adding that Pakistan remained committed to standing by Iran in the spirit of brotherhood, according to Radio Pakistan.

The premier praised the Iranian leadership and people for their steadfastness during recent challenges and welcomed efforts aimed at reducing tensions and promoting stability in the wider region.

He also acknowledged the contribution of Syed Asim Munir in supporting diplomatic initiatives that helped pave the way for a ceasefire and the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding between Iran and the United States.

Shehbaz Sharif expressed appreciation for the role played by regional partners, including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and Egypt, in facilitating efforts that contributed to the peace process.

Welcoming President Pezeshkian and his delegation to Pakistan, the prime minister reiterated Islamabad’s desire to further expand bilateral cooperation with Tehran across multiple sectors.

He highlighted the importance of enhancing economic collaboration, increasing trade and investment, and exploring opportunities for joint development and reconstruction initiatives.

The prime minister said both countries were committed to utilizing their respective strengths to advance shared economic interests and deepen people-to-people connections.

He added that Pakistan and Iran would continue working closely to promote peace, stability, and sustainable development across the Middle East, the Gulf region, and South Asia.

The talks also emphasized the mutual resolve of both sides to strengthen bilateral engagement and transform their longstanding relationship into a broader partnership focused on regional prosperity and security.
