June 22, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan’s Foreign Office on Sunday strongly condemned the United States’ airstrikes targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities, warning that the aggressive escalation risks plunging the Middle East into a wider war.

The Foreign Office urged all sides to immediately halt hostilities and return to dialogue.

The condemnation came hours after the U.S. military, in coordination with Israel, launched precision strikes on Iran’s key nuclear installations: Fordow, Isfahan, and Natanz, as part of a broader effort to dismantle Tehran’s nuclear infrastructure.

“Pakistan condemns the U.S. attacks following a series of Israeli strikes on Iranian facilities,” the Foreign Office said in a statement. “We are gravely concerned over the potential for further escalation, which could have devastating consequences for the region and beyond.”

Terming the U.S. strikes a violation of international law, Pakistan emphasised Iran's sovereign right to self-defense under the UN Charter.

The statement urged respect for civilian lives and adherence to international humanitarian norms, calling diplomacy the only sustainable solution.

“The rising tide of violence is deeply alarming,” the statement reads. “All parties must exercise restraint and commit to dialogue in line with the UN Charter.”

In a separate address at the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers’ special session in Istanbul, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar criticised the global community for its “double standards” in responding to Israeli aggression, both in Gaza and now against Iran.

“There is no accountability when it comes to Israel,” Dar said, describing the strikes as part of a “dangerous pattern of militarism” threatening regional and global peace.

Dar reiterated Pakistan’s long-standing call for a peaceful resolution to the Iranian nuclear issue and urged the OIC to take a united stance against continued Israeli military campaigns.

The conflict, which erupted on June 13 after Israeli airstrikes targeted Iranian nuclear and military leadership, has since escalated into a full-blown confrontation.
