May 05, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan-China cooperation on climate
change and green finance was highlighted as both sides explored ways to advance
scalable, technology-driven and commercially viable sustainability solutions.
Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental
Coordination, Dr. Musadik Malik, held a meeting with Mr. Ma Jun, President of
the Institute of Finance and Sustainability, China.
The discussion focused on strengthening collaboration in
green finance, climate technologies, and sustainable development initiatives,
according to a press release issued.
Mr. Ma Jun briefed the minister on China’s Green
Accelerator Program, launched in 2016, which consolidated 35 policy
recommendations into a unified framework.
He noted that China has since built the world’s largest
green financing system, estimated at around USD 7 trillion. He also highlighted
that China currently manufactures about 70% of global wind and solar energy
equipment and nearly 60 percent of electric vehicles worldwide.
He explained that the core aim of the Green Accelerator
initiative is to design bankable green projects by integrating technology,
finance, carbon markets, and project development expertise, enabling
large-scale and commercially sustainable climate solutions.
Both sides also discussed practical applications of green
technologies in different regions, including biochar production from jute
sticks in Bangladesh, intelligent precision irrigation systems in China and
Uzbekistan, and sustainable desert agriculture initiatives in Abu Dhabi.
The exchange emphasized the importance of adapting
innovative solutions to local conditions while maintaining financial viability.
Dr. Musadik Malik briefed Mr. Ma Jun on Pakistan’s
under-process “Green Fields” initiative, which aims to connect young
entrepreneurs working on green ventures with national and international
investors. The program is designed to promote green entrepreneurship and
support youth participation in sustainable economic development.
The Federal Minister appreciated China’s leadership in
green finance and clean technology and stressed the importance of international
partnerships in accelerating practical and scalable climate action. He
reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to learning from global best practices to
support its transition toward a green and sustainable economy.
