February 09, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan has facilitated the resumption of Canadian canola shipments, a move seen as strengthening agricultural trade flows and supporting the country’s edible oil supply chain.

The step is expected to have a positive impact on Pakistan’s import-dependent edible oil market and trade diversification efforts.

The development was confirmed during a teleconference between Pakistan’s Minister for Commerce, Jam Kamal Khan, and Canada’s Minister of International Trade, Maninder Sidhu.

Canadian High Commissioner Tariq Ali Khan and other senior officials were also present, according to the press release.

Both sides welcomed the positive momentum in bilateral economic relations and discussed expanding trade and investment cooperation across multiple sectors.

Pakistan highlighted its export strengths in textiles and apparel, leather goods, agro-based products, surgical instruments, sports goods, paper, plastics, and footwear, while noting growing capabilities in value-added food processing and higher-value industrial segments.

The Canadian side was briefed on Pakistan’s emerging focus on the minerals and mining sector, inviting Canadian companies to explore investment opportunities.

Both countries agreed to continue engagement at technical and policy levels to identify priority areas for collaboration, facilitate market access, and encourage business-to-business linkages.
