Pakistan BCI shows moderate uptick in December

December 16, 2025 (MLN):  The overall Business Confidence Index (BCI) increased by 0.4 points, reaching 53.4 in December 2025, according to the latest results of the Business Confidence Survey (BCS).

This was conducted by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) in collaboration with the Institute of Business Administration (IBA).

The industry sector had a notable decline of 2.7 points in its Business Confidence Index (BCI), bringing it down to 51.7. Meanwhile, the Services sector saw a jump, with its BCI edging up by 1.3 points to 53.9.

The headline index “Overall Business Confidence” is comprised of two sub-indices: the Current Business Confidence Index (CBCI) and the Expected Business Confidence Index (EBCI).

Current Business Confidence

The CBCI, which shows business sentiment over the month, fell by 0.3 points to 50.6 in December 2025.

Expected Business Confidence

EBCI, which represents expectations for the next six months, increased by 0.9 points to 56.1.

Inflation Expectations

The Inflation Expectations (IE) of businesses decreased by 1.3 points to 5.8, with the industry sector experiencing a fall by 2.6 points to 68.2.

Employment

Expected Employment Index went up by 2 points to 56.1, while current employment fell to 50.6.

Capacity Utilization

The Average Current Capacity Utilization (ACCU) in the Manufacturing sector increased by 1.9 to 66.4%
