PSX Opening Bell: Red Dawn

July 13, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) opened the week on a sharply negative note, with the benchmark KSE-100 Index extending last week's losses as investors reacted to a fresh escalation in geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

Market sentiment remained under pressure after the United States and Iran exchanged fresh military strikes in an escalating contest over control of the Strait of Hormuz, triggering a sharp rise in global oil prices and renewing concerns over energy supplies and regional stability.

Oil was last trading 4.05% higher at $79.09 per barrel, adding to risk aversion across financial markets.

As of 9:36am, the benchmark KSE-100 Index was at 179,448.52, down 2,793.25 points or 1.53%.

The index traded in a range of 677.26 points, touching an intraday  low of 179,448.52 (-2,793.25 points).

The total volume traded in the KSE-100 Index stood at 6.50 million shares.

Of the 100 index companies, 4 advanced, 83 declined, 1 remained unchanged, while 12 were untraded.

Top losers during the session were PABC (-4.15%), NATF (-4.11%), SSOM (-3.92%), POWER (-3.79%), and IBFL (-3.43%).

In terms of index-point contributions, UBL (-279.03pts), FFC (-200.24pts), MEBL (-169.24pts), MCB (-132.92pts), and LUCK (-130.80pts) weighed the most on the benchmark.

Sector-wise, the KSE-100 Index was dragged lower by Commercial Banks (-1,063.33pts), Cement (-326.18pts), Fertilizer (-283.87pts), Oil & Gas Exploration Companies (-246.09pts), and Power Generation & Distribution (-158.11pts).
