PSX Closing Bell: Red Wave Crushes Bulls

August 19, 2026 (MLN):The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) extended its decline on Wednesday, with the benchmark KSE-100 Index losing 1,109 points as selling pressure persisted across banks, investment companies, refineries, fertilizer and cement stocks.
Investor sentiment remained subdued as oil prices climbed to their highest level in around three weeks, with persistent uncertainty over shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and ongoing disruptions to global supplies raising concerns over energy costs and broader economic risks.
The benchmark KSE-100 Index concluded Wednesday's trading session at 176,846.36, showing a decrease of 1,109.14 points or 0.62%.
The index traded in a range of 2,304.21 points, touching an intraday high of 178,942.31 (+986.81 points) and a low of 176,638.10 (-1,317.40 points).

The total volume traded in the KSE-100 Index stood at 409.77 million shares.
Of the 100 index companies, 32 closed higher, 67 lower, while 1 remained unchanged.
Top losers during the day were CNERGY (-5.27%), ATRL (-4.60%), AICL (-3.22%), PAEL (-2.29%), and PGLC (-2.14%).
On the other hand, top gainers were ISL (+4.52%), BNWM (+4.36%), PTC (+2.15%), TRG (+1.85%), and PPL (+1.46%).

In terms of index-point contributions, UBL (-258.10pts), ENGROH (-119.55pts), HBL (-105.70pts), FFC (-79.27pts), and ATRL (-77.45pts) dragged the index lower.
Meanwhile, PPL (+80.80pts), PTC (+31.71pts), DGKC (+23.26pts), ISL (+22.20pts), and FATIMA (+18.51pts) provided support.

Sector-wise, the KSE-100 Index was let down by Commercial Banks (-533.56pts), Investment Banks / Investment Companies / Securities Companies (-132.83pts), Refinery (-115.36pts), Fertilizer (-74.86pts), and Cement (-53.21pts).
The index was supported by Engineering (+26.42pts), Chemical (+6.49pts), Paper, Board & Packaging (+2.92pts), Property (+2.63pts), and Sugar & Allied Industries (+0.86pts).

In the broader market, the All-Share Index closed at 107,272.73, posting a net loss of 487.35 points or 0.45%.
Total market volume stood at 787.89 million shares, compared with 1,038.64m in the previous session, while traded value was recorded at Rs39.57 billion, showing a decrease of Rs11.17bn.
A total of 431,091 trades were reported across 495 companies, with 184 stocks closing higher, 271 lower, and 40 remaining unchanged.

To note, the KSE-100 has lost 3,455 points or 1.92% during the fiscal year, whereas it has increased 2,792 points or 1.60% so far this calendar year.
